I installed mailutils to use the mail command but when I use it the emails get rejected in the other end because the domain of sender address does not exist. In fact, the domain is not correctly set (it is the hostname, not the domain).
How do I fix this? I need to set the domain name correctly so mailutils can see it.

When you installed mailutils, you should have been prompted to enter a “System mail name.”
To re-run this initial setup, run:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure postfix
