Migrating from AWS to Digital Ocean procedure

I have recently hired a freelance developer to develop a web application for me. He has hosted the application from his server. I need him to now transfer the application along with the original code from his server to mine on Digital Ocean. Not sure whats the process involved and would be very grateful if someone could walk me through this as the developer himself has no clue in terms of migration.

Hey there,

What is needed really depends on your application. We’re an unmanaged infrastructure provider, all of our images are based on upstream distro images. Things should act pretty “normal” once migrated and running.

To migrate contents over to a Droplet from another service I usually recommend a CLI tool like rsync:,

Alternatively, we have a community guide on moving Linux systems, but it is more robust and needs to be adjusted based on your application’s setup.

If you have any questions or need clarification on anything, just write back in and let me know!
