Outgoing Port 25 is blocked, How can I enable it?

I have tried everything but Outgoing Port 25 still disable or Deny, Can you please reply me on my support Ticket #479378, Really your support is terrible and you wast lots of my time :(

I was on the same boat, after a couple messages with the support team, this fixed it:

sudo ufw allow 25
sudo ufw reload

Hi, after a lot of research I noticed that Digitalocean has blocked port 25 for my account. I installed Postal SMTP Mail Server on my VPS but it shows an error when sending emails.

It shows an error when I try to connect to another SMTP while I can connect my SMTP via other SMTP. This means that the outgoing port 25 is blocked.

Shows this error in CLI:

root@mail:~# telnet digipress.xyz 25
Trying 142.93.196.202…
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out

Shows this Error in my Server:

No SMTP servers were available for gmail.com. Tried gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com, alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com, alt2.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com, alt3.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com, and alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com

Plz open outgoing port 25 for my account.

You’re not paying enough for a support SLA, it’s best effort, can take up to 48 hours.

Why DO start block outgoing traffic on new users?
how do I contact support when they constantly send me the same pointless message to check my ports ???? Is this the famous platform?

    Isnt this frustrating? I mean, new customers who want to be on Digital Ocean are getting shoo-ed away just because they think every new customer is a potential abuser. I asked them to whitelist the port so I can use webmail for my actual business purposes and guess what I got?

    “At this point in time, we are unable to review our decision to unblock SMTP on your account.”

    “At this point of time”??? So what? Am I supposed to hope that someday it will be unblocked and until that I cannot even use email? They keep forcing me to use third party services, but I don’t want to spend that extra dime just to use bloody email service! I came to DO to optimize my costs and its so ironic they are asking us to go pay for other services.

    They keep saying “Email is complicated, bla bla bla”. It’s not as complicated as they make it by blocking these ports! I’m gonna try Linode and Vultr now. At least I see more positive possibilities there!

Hello, all

This is something we have been doing to reduce spam on our network. Please do not think that we are accusing you of sending spam, it is more that we simply cannot accurately determine who is going to send it.

Stopping spam is a constant fight, so we have implemented some restrictions on newer accounts. To qualify for the ability to send out email, we do require accounts to wait 60 days before we can look into removing the restriction. Once your account has reached 60 days of stable use, please do reach back out to us so we can look into this for you.

    Hi @alexdo

    Perhaps there could be a channel for requesting this? It was extremely frustrating to realize that emails were not sending only to know that these ports have been blocked outside of the firewall in the first place.

    I am very new here and plan to stay very long, and have setup my mail server droplet too. 60 days of no emails is a dreadful wait. Appreciate if you could unblock port these ports for me:

    25
    80
    110
    143
    443
    465
    587
    993
    995
    4190

      Hello,

      You can use UFW in order to open the ports (server wide). UFW, or Uncomplicated Firewall, is an interface to iptables that is geared towards simplifying the process of configuring a firewall. While iptables is a solid and flexible tool, it can be difficult for beginners to learn how to use it to properly configure a firewall. If you’re looking to get started securing your network, and you’re not sure which tool to use, UFW may be the right choice for you.

      HTTP on port 80, which is what unencrypted web servers use, using sudo ufw allow http or sudo ufw allow 80

      HTTPS on port 443, which is what encrypted web servers use, using sudo ufw allow https or sudo ufw allow 443

      As for the mail ports, you can still contact our support team and double check if the droplet is blocked from sending emails.

        You see, this is only more confusing for new users. Don’t worry, I’ll help clarify this.

        Dear new users who are reading and had to undergo similar frustrations,

        Whitelisting the port 25 on UFW does NOT whitelist SMTP port 25 entirely. You still need to contact DO to get it whitelisted. If you just landed here, and are still on the free credit? Then I have bad news for you as your so called “billing history” is not enough to justify for DO to unblock your port. I’m sorry, but this is plain dumb.

        I moved to another cloud provider and they immediately unblocked my SMTP port upon first request.

        I came to DO to save my hosting costs, so giving me recommendations to use paid services like SendGrid, etc is ironic.
