Does DO Spaces provide a CDN in front of the storage for fast global access?

DO Spaces is great pricing and sounds like a good AWS S3 replacement. I was wondering if it had any CDN also implemented in front of it, or if a CDN option will be available at some point? Being able to host assets on it is great, but if it does not have a Global CDN in front of it, it won't be a great experience for all my website users. I'll need to ensure I find a service compatible with DO Spaces to do that. Which may nullify the great pricing and ease of use :(

We now have basic CDN functionality integrated into Spaces (available in Private Beta).

We're going to iterate and add to it based on what we learn from the beta testers.

If you'd like to try it out, email the product manager, Priya (pchakravarthi at do dot co), and let her know the email address that you use for your DO account.

  • Hi John,

    I was wondering if I can participate in the Beta as well because I interested in a CDN in front of the spaces.

Interested to know the same.

Hi John,
Even though I'm GETting very little at one time (24 or so requests) I'm also getting the error:
<Error>
<Code>ServiceUnavailable</Code>
<Message>Please reduce your request rate.</Message>
<RequestId/>
</Error>

It seems CDN functionality would help me. Any update on this feature?

  • That's not a problem on your end. They're still working on getting DO Spaces to run smoothly.

    If they're using nginx then it will start choking at medium to high amounts of requests and spit back 500 errors left and right.

So will it be a separate CDN service or it will be a part of Spaces that is no additional work will be needed to use CDN?

@johngannon
Please let us know current status of CDN feature and its tentative availability

@satyas It's still in private beta. GA is shaping up to be Q3.

@johngannon

Thanks for the reply.

"Amazon S3 supports the BitTorrent protocol so that developers can save costs when distributing content at high scale."

Does Spaces support this?

Spaces currently does not support BitTorrent. If we hear a strong demand for this support we are open to considering it as part of our Spaces Roadmap.

@johngannon Any update on the DO Spaces CDN release? Could really do with this functionality!

I am also interested in CDN. Any updates on this topic?
