Hi!

ProFTPd is not available in the default Amazon Linux repos. However, your system should have the EPEL repo installed (although disabled) by default. You can temporarily enable the EPEL repo by passing --enablerepo=epel to yum:

yum --enablerepo=epel install proftpd

If you want to enable the EPEL repo permanently, edit /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo and replace enabled=0 with enabled=1 under the [epel] section. Though, you should know that due to the way the repos are prioritized by default, if a package is available in both repos, the Amazon Linux AMI version will be installed.

Refer to the Amazon Linux AMI FAQ for more info.
