How to disable Encryption and Authentication for OpenVPN?

Hello community!

I’ve been trying to get an OpenVPN server set up using the guide found on these forums (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-an-openvpn-server-on-ubuntu-14-04) but am having issues getting any sort of decent bandwidth through it. Whether it’s set up as UDP or TCP, loading a webpage consumes all the bandwidth and half the time takes more than 5 minutes to load.

I’m hosting an OpenVPN server in order to route game traffic through it. The game I play uses the TCP protocol, but I’m sure it wouldn’t matter if the VPN used UDP. I’ve tried adding “cipher none” and “auth none” to the server.conf file but to no avail. Is there any way to completely remove cipher encryption and authentication? I heard you could do it with OpenVPN Access Server but I have no idea if it’s possible to install it with only console/terminal access.

Hi Ryan. VPN speed issues loading pages (TCP protocols with massive data exchange) are normally due to MTU setting in VPN. Try to change your settings relating to MTU to something less than 1500 (that is LAN connections MTU). Try 1420 or less.
