There's a new option called "Live Snapshot". and DO is still recommended to power down the droplet before taking snapshot

**Power-down your Droplet before taking a snapshot to ensure data consistency.**

so i want to ask is there still any chance of data loss when i take live snapshot?

Will the corruption be in the snapshot or in the server data?

There is a rare chance of data being corrupted. I personally don't turn servers off when taking snapshots and so far I have not had any issues. :)

  • This is correct. Since a snapshot is a copy of your disk, if that data were to change too much while the image is being created it could result in corruption in the snapshot image. If you have a lot of filesystem activity (like a heavily used database) it would still be recommended to power down when taking a snapshot but for most purposes the live snapshot should be sufficient.
