How to update pg_dump version on app platform?

Posted on February 2, 2023

I am getting pg_dump version mismatch when trying migrate database? 12.3 on app platform vs 14.3 on my machine.

Since we cannot install stuff on app container how to mitigate this issue without down grading pg_dump on dump generated machine or commit my local binaries to the repo.

This is actually pretty problematic because DO support Postgres 14 but app platform containers have older client tools.

For now just changing the version comment does work, but I think it is better to have version 14 of pg client tools installed natively, since changing pg_dump comment of major versions of client tools may have bad consequences.

Hi there,

Thank you for this feedback! I will forward this internally.

In the meantime, what you could do is to use a Dockerfile to deploy your app so that you could define the exact packages that you want to have installed on the container:

Is there already information on when this will be fixed?
