Question

Which product to choose: Laravel + Small DB for about 20 Pageloads per Day (Only 1 Person using the site)

I want to go out with the cheapest of the cheapest. I dont need big performance or anything, I just dont have a spare personal computer to run this on my local network. The site will be used a few times a day, or sometimes even not once a day.

I created a droplet but I didnt find any way to get a database there. Then I saw managed database and the price per month was 25!! $ for that when my droplet is only 5$ per month. that just doesnt seem right. is there a way to get a droplet with database? can I just install MySQL in my droplet?

Any help is much appreciated. Have a sunny day!

Hello,

For a small project, you can start with a single Droplet, and if your project grows then you can move your database to a Managed Database Cluster.

You can set up your Droplet using this script here which will do all of the server configurations for you:

Hope that this helps!

Hi @JohnWagner

Regarding your application, I’ll recommend using the smallest possible Droplet and upgrading it once your Application increases.

I do have a suggestion for any Droplet you use is and that is to add a 1GB of SWAP, it can do miracles!

Regarding the Database, you can both use your Droplet, another separate Droplet or use DigitalOcean’s Managed Database service, it’s completely up to you however all of them are viable options!
